Council Committees Updates
- Castle Shannon Revitalization
Chairman: Mike Warhold Several months ago, Nancy Kovach, Borough Council Vice President, brought to council's attention the need to renovate the Castle Shannon business district. Castle Shannon's downtown business district, like many other communities in Pennsylvania, has witnessed significant economic changes over the past several years.
Council recognizes that fundamental changes of this magnitude do not happen overnight, but can only be accomplished with a long term prospective and a vision for what we believe is possible.
As we move forward together I will post our work summaries in both the editions of the borough's newsletter and on our website. We have a long journey ahead of us, but with patience and persistence we will achieve our goal.
Ongoing information will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
- Building and Grounds
Chairman: Vince Smith On Sunday May 24, 2009 between 2 p.m. to approximately 4:30 in the afternoon it
was a “toss-up,” but the weather broke and the 2009 Castle Shannon Community Day
Celebration turned into an overwhelming success.
Despite the weather, nearly 5,000 people from both inside and outside the community
were at the park during the event. This was in addition to the many residents that
live in the Hamilton Park area, who enjoyed a family picnic and were then treated to a
first class night of music and fireworks.
Community Day also featured a variety of children’s events, activities and exhibits.
The Castle Shannon Volunteer Fire Department also provided an interactive and educational
exhibit on Fire Safety.
The committee is now busy planning for Community Day 2010.
- Library Committee
Chairman: George Orr I wish to express my thanks and appreciation to all those
who volunteered their time to do an outstanding job for the
Castle Shannon Library. The Friends sponsor a list of library
events such as Flea Markets, Book Sales, Halloween Parade
and Breakfast with Santa. With your continuing support and
help, our group was able to raise $1,245.00 at our last Book
Sale held in September.
Please support the Friends of the Castle Shannon Library by
becoming a Member today. We are always looking for volunteers
to help out, because without them, the Friends would
not be successful.
Public Safety Committee Chairman: Jean O'Malley If you have any information regarding a specific crime, or, if you wish to anonymously report possible criminal
activity, you may call our Investigations Unit at 412-885-9300 ext. 116. The police department’s page of
the Castle Shannon Borough website also contains an email contact form.
