Wagner: LIHEAP offers home heating assistance

With winter fast approaching, I wanted to let you know that assistance with winter heating bills is available for those who qualify through the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

LIHEAP grants can help a family of four making $30,975 per year pay their heating bills. Likewise, a single senior living on a fixed income of $15,315 or couples earning $20,535 or less also may be eligible for a grant.

LIHEAP is a federally funded program administered by the Department of Public Welfare that helps low-income households pay for home heating fuel through cash grants and emergency furnace repairs through crisis grants.

Applications are available at County Assistance Offices, local utility companies and community service agencies, such as Area Agencies on Aging or Community Action Agencies. Families can also apply here for LIHEAP cash grants online or call the toll-free LIHEAP hotline at 1-866-857-7095. Or you may call my constituent service office at (412) 343-2094.
