The K-9 Force
has been trained in narcotics detection, Patrol Work,
and used in the local schools in connection with the
D.A.R.E. PROGRAM
to teach children to
JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS,
and in many other
community public relations events.
They can also be called to duty by the district attorney's office,
the state or Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Officer Jeff Recker and K-9 Nitro

Officer Recker has been a member of the Castle Shannon Police
Department since January 2002 and K-9 Nitro a member since
November 2005. Nitro, a Belgium Malinois, was imported
from Holland and is a dual purpose K-9, trained to
find illegal drugs as well as do patrol work.
~~~
Nitro was purchased and his training paid for through grant funding
of the state and the Allegheny District Attorney's Office. Nitro
wears a ballistic vest purchased through fund raising from
the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of Castle Shannon.
~~~
Officer Jim Fleckenstein and K-9 Riad

Officer Fleckenstein has been a member of the Castle Shannon Police
Department since 2000. One of Officer Fleckenstein's duties is in
Commercial Vehicle Inspections which he will continue to do.
He received an award from the Amen Corner for his
outstanding enforcement in maintaining
safety on the state roadways.
~~~
Riad will be trained in tracking, search of narcotics and weapons
and aggression for officer safety. District Attorney Zappala
has funded the training of K-9 dogs across the county. Our
governing body has given us full support to continue in
a proactive approach to keep our community safe.
