The Castle Shannon Police Department

The Castle Shannon Police Department Fleet
The Castle Shannon Police Department maintains a diverse fleet of police vehicles from heavy-duty police bicycles to a military issue, four-wheel drive unit. Most of the vehicles have a specific purpose.
The marked police sedans are used for patrol and are outfitted with cameras and computers along with equipment needed for emergencies and security.
The four-wheel drive GMC is the Truck Safety Enforcement
Unit. This unit conducts safety inspections on
trucks from light-weight trucks to tractor trailers and
issues citations for safety violations.
Officers use the bicycles for patrol in business sections of
the borough as well as for spot patrol in residential areas.
The K-9 Unit uses one of the police sedan units that is
equipped with a modern kennel and carries all equipment
needed for a search.
All three sedans, the GMC, the bicycles and K-9 Unit
(including the Xato the K9), were funded through state
grant money by now Congressman Murphy and our
recent legislator Ralph Kaiser.
Government grant funding also helped to equip each
vehicle with a camera and a computer. The
computers are capable of sending e-mail to officers as
well as retrieving driver and vehicle information. They
are also capable of searching for information on
wanted persons and many similar searches for
information.
